The business was founded 1986 to support the sandinist liberation movement in Nicaragua and to inform about the political situation in the country. The product coffee was a good possibility to establish direct trade relationships with middle america.Today MITKA is one of the biggest alternative importer of coffee in germany, with around 300 tons annually. Futher more solidarity relations are supported by a direct trade from the producers under fair trade principles.
